The 2008 Little Alaska Weather Symposium (LAWS '08)

Call for Participation

invite you to attend the first Little Alaska Weather Symposium. The
Symposium provides a forum for the exchange of operational and research
information related to weather in the Alaska environment. Participation
from academic, research, government, military and private sectors is
encouraged.
Primary areas of focus are
- Operational forecasting and observational sources in Alaska
(Invited speaker - Daniel Petersen, Hydrometeorological Prediction
Center)
- Polar aspects of weather (Invited speaker -
John Cassano,
CIRES/ATOC, University of Colorado at Boulder)
- Radar in Mountainous Terrain (Invited speaker Katja Friedrich, University of Colorado at
Boulder)
- Air Quality and Chemistry Transport Modeling (Invited speaker -
Georg Grell, CIRES/NOAA/ESRL)

This will be a two-day symposium held at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks campus on Monday and Tuesday, 12-13 May 2008. Snacks will
be provided and meals will be on-your-own, with an organized evening
out at a local establishment.
Special Issue of Atmospheric Research
Nicole Mölders has taken the initiative to arrange for
a special issue of Atmospheric Research on polar
weather, with contributions coming from this symposium.
All presenters are encouraged to submit. The submission deadline
is 01 September 2008. Electronic submission is available at
http://ees.elsevier.com/atmosres. Authors will need to register, and then when submitting the article,
use the Select Article Type button and
choose LAWS08 Special Issue.
Registration
Registration is closed. Non-registered people are encouraged to
attend the presentations, but food and snacks are allocated to
those who have officially registered.
